Tomorrow night is the night! Join us at the Dickinson County Museum at 6pm for the kick off event for season 3 of The Okoboji Project! Be the first to hear how the history of the railroads in the Iowa Great Lakes transformed the area and how the rails are still visible and valuable today!

Final Throw Back Thursday for May. (School’s almost out - warning!). We are jumping ahead just a bit to November, 2, 1911. The ads are starting to sound a little more familiar. One thing to keep in mind - the local papers, Milford Mail, Terrill Tribune and Spirit Lake Beacon had to take ads where they could get them. There just wasn’t THAT many local businesses to carry them each week.

Memorial Day snuck up on us! The Museum will be OPEN Saturday May 23! We will welcome you from 12:00-4:00. Stop in and see our newest exhibit Steve’s Depot located in the train depot. Interactive fun for all ages!!

Today we celebrate the completion of the bathroom remodel at the Museum! We are incredibly grateful to the Dickinson County Endowment Fund for the grant that allowed us to update the 30 year old bathroom as well as add a small kitchenette in the existing directors office. A huge shout out to JVL Corp, A & A Lakeside PHC, and Precision Electric for completing this remodel with incredible dedication!

I will bet that viewers of this site, expecting to see actual ads with the Throw Back Thursday segment were just a little disappointed. I wish I had a witty response to my obvious error. An apology will have to suffice. As I am “out of the office”, I am unable to correct quickly. Until next week!

Throw Back Thursday. Last week we’re were in January of 1890. This week we go to December of the same year. I might have taken offense to be marketed to as a “fat person” but things haven’t changed in 136 years. Even back then they were marketing “mothers’ friend” or assistance with “manhood”. The more things change, the more they stay the same. 🤷🏻‍♂️
