You. MUST. See. These. Creations. In. Person. 😍

The pictures are beautiful, but they truly do not do these pieces justice. Seeing them in person is powerful. Noticing the texture, the tiny details, every brush stroke, and all the effort poured into creating beauty inspired by the same shared day in the park together is honestly magical.

The Forest to Frame Grand Reveal is this Saturday from 4–8 PM at Spokane Art School, and this is your chance to experience 75+ finished plein air creations together for the very first time.

“My paintings explore storytelling through animals and their environment. I am continuously trying to expand, examine and capture my relationship to wildlife and their habitats; to create an open door for viewers to engage with their world.” -

Katie Frey is a Spokane artist who works in acrylic and watercolor and primarily paints landscapes and animals. She has been teaching and creating art in Spokane Washington for over 15 years. She paints with bright colors and expressive lines. The subject matter is planned, but everything else is intuitive: purple shadows, tangled plants, a landscape disintegrating into the abstract. Katie wants her art to be warm and invigorating; to look as spontaneous and joyful as it feels when she creates it.

“The Storykeepers”
Oil over Mixed Media
30in.x30in.

I am a native of the PNW and resided in Elk, Wa. I have been a mixed media artist for the last 10 years dabbling in all sorts of themes and perspectives. My heart’s desire as an artist is to live a truly authentic and courageous life. Art invites us to show up in the most vulnerable of ways! Each artistic endeavor is a journey of self-discovery and God-discovery. May we never stop exploring either one.

🌿🎨 Forest to Frame 2026 is officially in the books — and what a beautiful, wild, inspiring day it was.

This year, 50 local artists spread throughout Finch Arboretum and spent the day creating original plein air artwork in real time while enduring cold temperatures, wind, sporadic rain, and even a little hail. Despite the unpredictable weather, the artists showed up with incredible determination, adaptability, and creativity.

What emerged were dozens of completely unique works of art, each shaped not only by the landscape itself, but by the constantly changing conditions surrounding it. No two pieces are alike, and that’s part of what makes this event so special.

To everyone who attended, volunteered, performed, hosted booths, served food, supported the artists, or simply wandered the trails and experienced the creative process with us — thank you! Watching over a thousand people connect with art and nature in such an authentic way was deeply meaningful.

And to the artists: thank you for braving the elements and pouring yourselves into your work. Forest to Frame would not exist without your passion, resilience, and willingness to create in the moment.

We can’t wait to share the finished pieces with all of you at the Forest to Frame Gallery Reveal on May 23rd from 4 to 8pm at Spokane Art School.
