23rd Regiment United States Colored Troops

23rd Regiment United States Colored Troops The unit is located in the Spotsylvania area and is working in conjunction with the John J. Wright Educational & Cultural Center Museum.

The 23rd USCT were the first Colored soldiers to fight in combat against the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia on May 15, 1864, during the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House. The 23rd Regiment United States Colored Troops is a living history organization that has formed for the Sesquicentennial Commemoration of the American Civil War. We are actively seeking recruits in the Fredericksburg, Spo

tsylvania, and Stafford regions to interpret and educate the public about the contribution made by the 23rd USCT and African Americans during the Civil War.

The National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, D.C.,
This event was a moving timeline of American Military History, featuring Marching Bands, Veterans from all 50 states along Constitution Avenue from 7th to 17th Street NW. Wash. DC.
Today was the best of five USCT units that came together as one to make this event happen. Our USCT Ancestors were happy today.
Some of the USCT units were the 1st, 5th, 6th, 23rd and the 54th USCT units. We also were honored to have the Scandalous Women of the Civil War Guild with us.

28 Feb 2026
I visit Florida to shoot scenes for a Civil War movie that will be named “A LAND REMEMBERED”.
I play the part of the 54th Regiment USCT (United States Colored Troop) soldier. I was an extra with many others 54th USCT soldiers. Movie should be release late 2027. The following is an account of the movie story line.
The Battle of Olustee, fought on February 20, 1864, was the largest Civil War battle in the state of Florida, The battlefield engagement ended with a Union retreat toward Jacksonville. Among the Union forces present for duty were three regiments of black troops, the 8th USCT, 35th USCT, and the famed 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment (Movie Glory) — whose service formed a major part of the battle’s story. The 54th was sent to Jacksonville after the Fort Wagner battle where the movie Glory ended. Note: In the Olustte battle, the USCT soldier ended up pulling a train that broke down carry 300 wounded Black and White soldiers to Jacksonville, FL. That is near 17 miles, and took 42 hours to do. Not sure if the train scene will be in the movie. Movie focus on the Battle of Olustee.

Some of the 54th Reg USCT soldiers were Mark, Mike H, Bryan, Carl, James, Frederick, Betran. Brought friend Carl and he was a extra 54th USCT soldier.
