Reminder! Tomorrow, June 1 is our next meeting of the Southern Lit Society Book Club from 6-8pm! The cost is $10.00.

We will discuss "The Orphan Mother" by Robert Hicks! View the description below.

Set in the years following the Civil War, this novel follows Mariah Reddick, formerly enslaved and now a respected midwife in Franklin, Tennessee. When her politically ambitious son is murdered, Mariah’s carefully rebuilt life begins to unravel. Her search for the truth forces her to confront her past, her losses, and the changing South. Rich in historical detail and emotional depth, The Orphan Mother is a powerful story of resilience, justice, and love.

*Please note that the $10 fee to join does not include the book. This fee covers registration for book club and food served during the event.

Friends,

Due to the forecasted rain and after careful consideration of weather conditions, An Evening in Elmwood will now take place at the museum. The decision was made with guest experience in mind, as we did not want to risk weather impacting the event.

We are also excited to share that Elmwood is officially sold out. Thank you to everyone who purchased tickets and made this event possible.

We truly appreciate your understanding and look forward to seeing everyone at the museum!

We are excited to share another character you can expect to see at An Evening in Elmwood on Saturday, May 30 at 5:30 PM!

As a reminder, each character is an individual who was once a Robertson County resident and is now buried in Elmwood Cemetery. During the event, our talented actors will portray these individuals and tell their stories.

Character info:
Julius Edward Bell, a popular local Springfield businessman, would soon enlist in the US Army when America entered World War I. He would go on to serve with bravery during many of the biggest battles of the War in France, such as the Argonne Forest, the Somme and Amiens.

A true patriot and a leader of men, Eddie soon rose from the ranks to become a First Lieutenant by nearly the end of the war. Eddie Bell had hopes of coming home to his family in Springfield but his life was cut short leading his men bravely into one of the
last major battles of the War.

Lieutenant Julius Edward Bell will be portrayed by Philip Hart!

Tickets are $30 and include admission, dinner, and entry into auction item drawings. Grab yours now: https://bit.ly/3N3O420

Join us for a special artist reception on May 31st from 2–4 PM as we celebrate the opening of this exciting new series and Jay’s featured works.

Canvas & Community is a new featured artist series at the Robertson County History Museum celebrating the creativity and artistic voices found throughout our community! We are honored to welcome Jay Swafford as our June Featured Artist.

Jay Swafford is a Nashville-born visual artist who has been exhibiting his work since the 1970s. Currently based in Springfield, Tennessee, Swafford’s work is characterized by a "multifaceted prism" through which he views the world. His paintings and photography invite viewers to rediscover the people and places they might otherwise take for granted, imbuing the commonplace with intense energy, power, and color.

Beyond the canvas, Swafford is involved with the local arts community, having served as Art Director and curator for several regional galleries and founding the "ART in the PARK" festival. When not in his studio or hosting his weekly radio show, he can often be found walking, hiking or bicycling through the Tennessee landscape.

We invite you to stop by throughout the month of June to experience Jay’s incredible work and help us celebrate this exciting new addition to the museum.
