Located within a stone’s throw of the Missouri River and Katy Trail State Park, and in the heart of historic St. Charles, First Missouri State Capitol State Historic Site is the first seat of the state’s government. Its rough hewn timbers and dark wood floors whisper the tales of the state’s first legislature. Interpretive programs help visitors understand how the state’s government was formed and

what life was like in the early 1800s. The state park system is composed of 92 parks and historic sites managed by the Dept. of Natural Resources for the benefit of all Missourians. ON THIS DAY: August 10th, 1821

205 years ago, Missouri was officially admitted to the Union as the 24th state of the United States of America! To celebrate and commemorate, we have the historic First Capitol open for self-guided walk-through tours, as well as family friendly activities in our backyard! We also have FREE CAKE in our Interpretive Center while supplies last!
Come on out, event closes up at 4pm.

Yes, we're the second smallest state park... but we still see plenty of wildlife!

Just a reminder: Wildlife is just that, wild! Do not handle any wild animals, and alert park staff if the animal is in an area where it could be a danger to the public or vice versa. The bat and turtle in these photos were handled by park staff and relocated out of the path of the public.

Thank you to everyone who came out to the Historical Children’s Festival on Saturday! Mother Nature made it a bit soggy but it turned out to be an awesome day and a lot of fun for all! See you next year!
