www.thegriotmuseum.com The Griot is the first cultural institution in St. Earl. E.

Louis that is solely dedicated to revealing the broad scope of Black History and culture. Only the second of its kind in the country, The Griot Museum of Black History opened as The Black World History Wax Museum in February 1997. In 2009, we hit upon what seems to be the perfect name “The Griot (pronounced “GREE-OH”) Museum of Black History. Our new name more accurately reflects what we do -- col

lect, preserve, interpret, and share the stories, culture, and history of Black people - particularly highlighting their regional connection to American history. The core galleries of The Griot include life-size wax figures, other art, artifacts, and memorabilia to help interpret the stories of Black people who have contributed to our country’s development. Visitors can “meet” and learn about Carter G. Woodson, Josephine Baker, Dred and Harriet Scott, Elizabeth Keckley, William Wells Brown, James Milton Turner, Clark Terry, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Rev. Nance Sr., Miles Davis, Madame C.J. Walker, York, Percy Green, Macler Shepard, Chief Sherman George, and others!

Griot Museum Exhibit Inspires a Novel!
"The Golden Stool: Heirs to the Kingdom" follows Erika Golden, a museum professional visiting Ghana, and Justin, a charismatic tour guide with royal Ashanti roots. Bound by existing relationships, they discover their forbidden love is the key to awakening the mystical power of the Golden Stool. As betrayal and conspiracy threaten their lives, Erika and Justin's union becomes the only hope to restore a lost kingdom and bring prosperity to the Ashanti people. This sweeping romantic saga blends heritage, magic, and suspense, captivating readers with its tale of true love and destiny.
The book was inspired by a trip to Ghana by Founder and Executive Director, Lois D. Conley, and the book's author, Erika D. Neal to install a temporary exhibit at the biennial meeting of ASWAD at University of Ghana. The exhibit focused on the work of scholar, historian, activist and educator, Alice Windom whose papers and documents and many other invaluable objects have been donated to The Griot by her estate.
The Griot will host a book launch on Saturday, June 27th at 3 p.m. Join the journey and order your copy here. The Griot will receive a portion of the proceeds for each book sold.
