Ferring Art and Art History Travel Study Program A Travel Study Program for UMSL Students

The Art and Art History Travel Study Program, housed in the Art and Art History Department at the University of Missouri-St. Louis's College of Fine Arts and Communication, was created to help students develop a vision for their lives as participants in the arts. Junior and seniors in art, art history, art education and graphic design apply to participate in a free three-day trip to a city in the

United States. The trip provides an unparalled chance for students to meet with artists, curators, designers and collectors about their work. The Ferring Art and Art History Study Travel Program has received support from some of the region's top arts philanthropists and named after lead donors Alison and John Ferring.

Laumeier Director Marilu Knode and UMSL studio faculty member Phil Robinson led an intimate tour to Chicago to visit museums, artists, graphic design studio and see a play at Steppenwolf Theater, Russian Transport. Many forms of art in three jam-packed days!

A great first day in New York with Laumeier's Director Marilu Knode, faculty members Dr. Maureen Quigley and Prof. Jeffrey Sippel and 12 students today--we just made it out in time before the snowstorm! Here's a pic of artists Sandra Gibson and Luis Recorders talking to the group at the site of the artist team's installation in Madison Square Park. Madison Square's curator Adam Glick also joined us--lovely that everyone was willing to see us on a Sunday!

The 2013 Ferring Art and Art History Study Travel Program heads to New York tomorrow for four jam-packed days of museums, studios, galleries and drinking in the city. We're also seeing the play "Mound Builders" by Langford Wilson, a Missouri Native--what a coincidence! Stay tuned for pics from the road.

We received almost 30 applications for the trip to New York in March 2012--good luck to all the students interested in a free trip to meet experts, see artist studios and get a great jump on your career!
