PLEASE NOTE: Artists of all backgrounds are welcome to apply. You do not need to be of Latin American or Caribbean descent—submissions are open to anyone whose work engages with or is inspired by these regions and themes.
This year’s returning juror is local artist and SAA’s gallery manager and board secretary, Valeria Ochoa.
Valeria is a full-time Literature and Language educator, supporting Norwalk Public Schools’ population. She holds a B.A. in English, an M.A. in Linguistics and an M.A in curriculum and instruction. She is passionate about storytelling through both writing and photography. Her creative work captures the beauty of everyday life and centers voices from all walks of life.
As a first generation Colombian, ancestry, roots and lineage as well as its ties to land and belonging has been a centerpiece in the fabric of her life. Beyond being a high school teacher, she is deeply invested in the power of language, both as a tool for communication and as an evolving art form.
The show will run from September 24, 2026 - October 22, 2026.
