Cowboy Country Museum

Cowboy Country Museum Open Tues.–Fri. 12:30 p.m.–5:30 p.m. Other times by appointment.

The Cowboy Country Museum was founded in 1977, with the idea to start a museum in the heart of Texas’ cowboy country, its supporters being vitally interested in the perpetuation of the image of the Old West and to focal point the cowboy. Over the years our board has commissioned outstanding Western artists to preserve our heritage for future generations, establishing a permanent, quality Western a

rt collection in downtown Stamford. Some of the founding artists featured in our museum collection are Tom Ryan, Wayne Baize, Bob Lee, Bob Moline, William Moyers, and Jim Hamilton, as well as the photographs of pioneer cowboy photographer, Ray Rector. In addition to celebrating and showcasing outstanding Western artwork, we strive to generate more appreciation and understanding of our heritage, by focusing on the history of the Texas cowboy and the Texas Cowboy Reunion, our local historic SMS Ranchlands, and the early days of the town site of Stamford.
