Education at the Frontier Culture Museum The Frontier Culture Museum's Education Department serving public schools, private schools, higher education establishments, and home-school educators.

The Frontier Culture Museum is an outdoor, living history museum located in Staunton, Va. The museum features 11 permanent exhibits representing: West Africa, England, Ireland, Germany, Native America, and early American settlers. Each of our educational programs is designed to demonstrate the daily lives of each of these cultures.

This advertisement from the "Republican Vindicator" in Staunton from July 23, 1849 details the education a young lady could expect at the Augusta Female Seminary, later known as Mary Baldwin University. Founded in 1842 by the Presbyterian ministry, Augusta Female Seminary aimed to “afford the means of a thorough literary and Christian education to the female youth of this portion of our country.” Take a look at the price for each course, not to mention a rent of not more than $50 per term!

The FCM runs camps in June and July for three age levels: Summertime on the Frontier for 5-7 year olds, Playing in the Past for 8-9 year olds, and Living in History for 10-12 year olds. Campers must be the appropriate age for camp by the start of camp. See below for more information about each camp.
