Greg Alderete for shared the beautiful video he created of Farrell’s Marsh in Steilacoom! This 62-acre, heavily wooded nature reserve features more than two miles of scenic trails and is home to a variety of wildlife, including blue herons, kingfishers, ducks, songbirds, beavers, deer, and more.

Several projects are planned for the marsh in the coming months, and volunteers are needed to help. If you are interested in getting involved, please leave a comment on this post, and I will be happy to connect you with the appropriate contact person.

Thank you, Greg, for showcasing this special place in our community!

Today, members of the Steilacoom Historical Museum Association surprised Docent Jean Hayes at the Museum to celebrate her 98th birthday this month! 🎉

We also wanted to honor the fact that Jean continues to graciously welcome and greet our visitors as one of our wonderful Docents. Her kindness, dedication, and warm smile mean so much to all of us.

If anyone has photos from today’s celebration, please share them in the comments!

It is with sadness that we share the passing of Jackie Dock, a longtime Steilacoom resident and member of the Steilacoom Historical Museum Association for more than 50 years. Jackie passed away in Vancouver, Washington on March 17, 2026.

Jackie’s sister and niece wrote a beautiful obituary that truly captures the essence of who Jackie was — a kind, generous, and caring person who touched many lives. She will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
