What does an “opportunity of a lifetime” look like?

Meet Aya Strickland, a mechanical test operations intern at NASA Stennis.

At NASA’s Propulsion Center of Excellence, Aya is getting hands on experience with maintenance, troubleshooting, and supporting propellant transfers for the engines we test for NASA Artemis missions to the Moon.

Her ultimate goal? To become the youngest certified test conductor.

“This experience has shown me exactly what to expect in the aerospace engineering workforce,” she said.

We were honored to host Millsaps College President Frank Neville at NASA Stennis on May 11. Fresh off attending NASA’s Artemis II launch in April, President Neville shared his gratitude for the invitation and his excitement about NASA’s work.

The visit was a great opportunity to highlight how the work at NASA Stennis continues to support America’s space program and to explore new ways we can work together to inspire the next generation of innovators across Mississippi and the Gulf Coast region.

Spotlighting Safe Work 👷‍♂️🚀

It takes a team effort to keep operations running safely here.

NASA Stennis leaders recently visited multiple work sites to recognize contract support staff who are putting safety first.

NASA Stennis Associate Director Rodney McKellip presented a SHAKERS (Smart Human Actions Keep Everyone Really Safe) Award to Drace Construction employee Miguel Shephard for making safety a priority.

This shared commitment moves our mission forward at NASA’s Propulsion Center of Excellence.

Through our work on NASA’s Artemis missions, we are helping America return to the Moon to stay.

We also proudly serve the nation and commercial sector with unique propulsion capabilities and expertise, all while operating as a federal city home to more than 50 federal, state, academic, and commercial tenants.

Thank you to the team for staying safely focused on the mission at NASA Stennis!

Knock, knock🚪

NASA’s top four-fifths of the SLS (Space Launch System) core stage for the Artemis III mission was offloaded from the agency’s Pegasus barge and rolled today, April 28, and rolled to the Vehicle Assembly Building at NASA's Kennedy Space Center.

Next up, technicians will join the remaining core stage segments prior to rocket stacking operations.

The future is now 🚀

As students from around the world compete at the FIRST Robotics Competition in Houston this week, we are recognizing the next generation of explorers!

To achieve our ambitious goals for future NASA Artemis missions as we return to the Moon to stay, NASA will need a steady pipeline of collaborative problem solvers.

Before the Artemis II mission, NASA employees invested in this future by volunteering at the Magnolia Regional FIRST Robotics competition in Laurel, Mississippi.

By serving as mentors and judges, NASA worked with students through the same types of challenges we face every day.

Watch the Artemis Generation in action! 🚀
