Bushels of Nostalgia

$12.99

Commonplace items and everyday lifestyles often run their course and fade away like the setting sun. As they lose their importance in society, they take on a vintage flavor.

Through a collection of short stories, take a nostalgic trip back to the late 50s, 60s and early 70s with a farm family of twelve. Share their simple life experiences as they buy their first black-and-white television set; enjoy shopping downtown with them where parking meters must be fed; see their behind-the-scenes- view of a full-service gas station and find out how they kept Sundays special. While no two families lived exactly alike in those decades, plenty of common threads did exist.

Inevitably, times keep on changing. New products and innovative inventions replace the old ways of doing things, but it is never too late to rediscover some familiar gems of the past. Fortunately, they are only a memory away.

Today, we’re excited to share more of the response cards completed by students who visited the traveling Smithsonian Institution exhibit, “Americans!” during their field trips.

So many responses shared similar themes about what stood out most, giving us a meaningful look at the parts of the exhibit that truly resonated with students and sparked conversation.

Thank you to every student who took the time to share their thoughts with us—we loved hearing your perspectives and seeing the impact this experience had on you!

“Pikes Peak or Bust!” History Café at the Overland Trail Museum
We hope you will join us at the Overland Trail Museum on Thursday, May 28 (please note the date change) at 10:30 a.m. as we continue our “Echoes of Colorado” series.

This month, we’ll explore the fascinating history of the Colorado Gold Rush and the towns that sprang to life with the discovery of gold. Originally known as the Pikes Peak Gold Rush, it began in 1858 and became the second-largest mining boom in United States history, following the California Gold Rush just a decade earlier.

Hear stories of the early prospectors who ventured west in search of fortune, and discover the rich histories of communities such as Leadville, Central City, Irwin, Fairplay, Cripple Creek, and Victor. In their heyday, some of these small mountain towns even boasted populations larger than Denver.

Join us for coffee, muffins and a lively and engaging morning of Colorado history! Space is limited so please call the museum at (970) 522-3895 to reserve your place!
