It's been a long road for the Stoughton Historical Society since the City Council's vote on January 28, 2025 to sell the Depot to the Smet Foundation.
Our society spent the first half of the year donating, selling, moving and storing our depot collection.
The next few months of 2025 were spent meeting with city officials, our members, and contractors.
On January 15, 2026, our Historical Society voted to accept a bid from Wendorf Construction to build a carriage style garage at the Pioneer House property on North Division Street.
This new construction will provide over 700 ft. of floor space.
On February 10, 2026, a generous donation was granted from the City of Stoughton to our organization from funds from the sale of the Depot.
We are grateful for their generous donation and will continue to fund raise, apply for grants, and ask for community donations to cover the additional cost.
Our progress will be shared as phase two, building, unfolds.
