571 Projects supports the work of dynamic emerging and mid-career artists by bringing conceptually strong, well-crafted work to the notice of an engaged art going and collecting public, via independent curatorial practice. We are dedicated to the careful curation of a thoughtful selection of artists, and to nurturing curiosity and contemplation in our collectors and art enthusiasts. In addition, w

e welcome and encourage the public to engage with art and exhibitions at our micro gallery, located at 56 Park Street, Stowe, Vermont. Founded by Sophie Bréchu-West, an alumna of Christie’s Education with a Master’s in Contemporary Art and Connoisseurship, 571 Projects opened its doors as a boutique gallery in New York City's Chelsea in October 2009, housed in an old warehouse affectionately called Cold Castle. When the building was slated for demolition in 2012, the program became nomadic. Settled in Stowe, Vermont since 2015, 571 Projects continues to build a community through special projects. A deep, lifelong love of art and a desire to promote the work of significant, and at times overlooked, emerging artists drives her curatorial and consulting practice.

Swirl your way into this Saturday afternoon on the sinuous curves of Brian Fekete’s “1783.” With an evocative yet intriguingly oblique title, Fekete anchors us in a kind of physical reality and uses expressive abstract forms, alive with lush gestures, to reveal fresh layers of truth and meaning. Wander through more of Fekete’s mesmerizing work on our website and don’t be surprised if you find yourself someplace deeply familiar, yet entirely new.

Treat yourself to a double scoop of joy that won’t melt in the sunshine and spend some time with Dusty Boynton’s “World Peace & Ice Cream.” Animated by authenticity and spirit, Boynton’s delightfully eccentric cast of characters is caught in an evocative tableau, where these fantastical figures embody deeply human feelings. Go back for seconds on our website, where you can revisit “Boundless: Dusty Boynton,” our 2021 collaboration with the Bennington Museum, and let Boynton’s motley crew be the cherry on top of your holiday weekend!

“You are the sky. Everything else, it’s just the weather.” ― Pema Chödrön. Connect with the vastness within, compliments of Berta Burr’s quietly powerful skyscapes. “stories change” and so do exhibitions, so this week we’re savoring the final days of having Jimmie James’ poetic work on the walls of the gallery! Consistently exhibiting a strong sense of emotional integrity and truth through spontaneous, organic line work and perceptive use of color, James' work continually grounds us in the act of looking and appreciating. We’ll close out “stories change” on a high note, when James joins us for an artist talk and musical performance of original songs featuring Brooklyn-based guitarist Jackson FitzGerald this Friday, May 8 at 5 pm. Learn more at https://www.571projects.com/exhibitions/50/overview/ and looking forward to seeing you there!

Save the date for Friday, 5/8, when “stories change” artist Jimmie James joins us in the gallery for an artist talk and musical performance of original songs featuring James & Brooklyn-based guitarist Jackson FitzGerald. An artistic shaman, James taps into a kind of universal consciousness to create canvases that insist on our participation, weaving together both the angular and the abstract and the organic and rawly human. Also a poet, actor, and singer/songwriter, James has long been a fixture of New York City's art, theater, and music scene, performing alongside his paintings and collaborating with musicians along the way. Learn more about “stories change” at https://www.571projects.com/exhibitions/50/overview/ and plan to join us to experience it in person before it closes on May 9!

A darkly luminous elegy, Dorothy Simpson Krause’s “Faraway,” paradoxically draws you in closer to a dreamlike, yet startlingly familiar, world. Layering evocative images that conjure the ruins of an ancient city submerged beneath a flooded forest, Krause builds a delicately menacing atmosphere that turns your mind to a civilization in decline and the impacts of climate change. Dive deeper into Krause’s powerful work on our website and let her remind you of both the exquisite beauty and inherent vulnerability of our world.
