The registration deadline for the Reading & Jim Thorpe Ramble has been extended to July 15. Sign up today to take in the sights of beautiful, fall foliage from your seat on the train during this Saturday, September 19 customized day trip, which includes a:

- Roundtrip train ride on the Reading Blue Mountain & Northern Railroad from Reading to Jim Thorpe, an historic borough in the Pocono Mountains, known for its Victorian architecture.
- Lunch at the Broadway Grille, the Inn at Jim Thorpe's hip bar/eatery showcasing global grub and craft brews in a Victorian building.
- Roundtrip train ride on the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway, which follows the Lehigh River over bridges, through Glen Onoko and into the Lehigh Gorge State Park.
- Dinner at the Saucony Creek Franklin Station Brew Pub, located in a building once used as a passenger station by the Reading Company.

The Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania will highlight the multifaceted industrial giant, the Reading Company, during the annual Reading Railroad Days on Wednesday, July 1 to Sunday, July 5, and Wednesday, July 8 to Saturday, July 11. Purchase advance tickets online on the Museum’s website or at the door. Reading Railroad Days take place during regular Museum hours and are included in the regular Museum admission. Happy 190th birthday year to the Camden & Amboy Railroad coach No. 3. No. 3 made its way — slowly, carefully and with a police es**rt — from the Smithsonian to the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in July of 2002. On long-term loan, No. 3 is treasured as the second oldest surviving passenger car in America and is currently exhibited on Track 2 West in Rolling Stock Hall.

Noted for its swiveling four-wheel trucks, modern seating and center aisle arrangement, it was retired from service in 1865 and later acquired and restored by the Pennsylvania Railroad. No. 3 accompanied the “John Bull” locomotive, and later its replica, to various world’s fairs and expositions throughout the first half of the 20th century. https://www.rrmuseumpa.org/our-trains

. The shoeshine stand on exhibit in the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania lobby is from Union Station in New Haven, Connecticut, and dates to the early part of the 20th century. It was part of a donation from Virginia S. Moore, whose husband William H. Moore was president of Penn Central from 1970 to 1974.

This shoeshine stand seats two people. The body of the stand is made from wood, while the platform and steps are made from marble. There are two brass footrests for each seat of the stand. The seats are covered in a black, leather-like material. Drawers in the base would have held supplies used by the shoeshiner. https://www.rrmuseumpa.org/donations-of-artifacts

Happy 130th birthday year to the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania’s Pennsylvania Railroad coach No. 8177. A wooden passenger coach built in the railroad’s Columbus, Ohio car shops in 1896, No. 8177 featured semi-enclosed vestibule passageways at each end, a ladies’ lounge area and separate bathrooms for men and women, as well as an automatic coupler and air brake. After retiring the car from work train service and restoring it, the railroad placed it on exhibit at the 1939 World’s Fair. No. 8177 is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
