Boyd Grant Gannon, age 10 months, has a laugh outside with his pup in this 1938 photo from our collection.

Boyd was the son of Delmont and Edith Learn Gannon of Stroud Township. He relocated to Kunkletown as an adult, where he owned Mountain View Farm and operated a horseshoeing business for 45 years. Gannon was also a noted breeder of American Quarter Horses, a competitive cutting horse rider, and a founding member of Pocono Animal Rescue.

A row of cabins nestled among the trees at Camp Tegawitha in Tobyhanna is featured in this c. 1920s postcard from our collection.

Founded in 1917 by Mary Angela Lynch, Camp Tegawith was a renowned summer camp for girls ages 6-16. Set on 900 acres “high atop the Poconos” and centered around its own private Lynchwood Lake in Coolbaugh Township, the camp offered swimming, boating, riding, sports, dancing, dramatics, crafts, and plenty of classic summer fun.

For more than 75 years, Camp Tegawitha welcomed generations of girls from across the country to Monroe County. The camp remained a beloved summer destination until it closed following the 1994 season.

East Stroudsburg High School seniors Mary Lou Beards, Margaret Ashcroft, and Rita Hall stop by Carl's Arco Station in this photo from the 1971 Cavalier yearbook in our collection.

Owned by Carl A. Smith, Carl’s Arco Station was located at 135 N. Courtland Street in East Stroudsburg. Members of the Class of 1971 took pictures at businesses around the area for the yearbook’s Advertisers section, a creative way to recognize the local merchants whose support helped make the publication possible.

Cars line the parking lot of Clyde's Tavern & Restaurant in Mountainhome in this c.1950 image from our collection.

Located on Route 390 at Buck Hill Forks, Clyde's Tavern was a fun gathering spot for cocktails, dinner, and dancing, with music provided by Ray Cavalieri and His Orchestra. The establishment also became known for its popular square dances in the 1950s and 1960s.

In honor of , we're sharing a 1918 flag-themed postcard from our collection. It was sent to young Doris Marsh of Stroudsburg and addressed in care of her father, Charlton B. Marsh.

The message comes from Camp Lee, Virginia: "Dear little cousin. I thought I would send you something that we are fighting for. I am feeling pretty good this morn and hope this card will find you all the same. Your cousin, Earl."

Research in our library suggests the writer was Earl Jennings, also of Stroudsburg, who served in the U.S. Army during WWI. Earl was the son of Albert Jennings, whose sister, Emma Jennings Marsh, was Doris Marsh's mother.

We're sew excited to share a photo of this c.1900 sewing machine from our museum collection on ! 🧵

This sewing machine was sold by the L'Hommedieu Music Company of Stroudsburg, which advertised, "People are talking about the L'Hommedieu Special Sewing Machine because it is the best machine for the money on the market. In fact there are many machines that cost much more money that are not nearly so good. There are so many points of superiority they can't be told here. Come and investigate. They sell at $17.25 and $19.50."

This black iron sewing machine with decorative gold scroll work on a wooden stand belonged to Addie Boorem Heckman of Henryville and later Stroudsburg and was a gift of her grandson Tom Lambert.

Beakleyville Baptist Church, organized in 1843, was named in honor of Rev. Silas Beakley, a Baptist missionary who came to Stroud Township in 1840. Charrick Van Vliet donated the land on which the church was built and became the first person buried in its graveyard when he died in 1844.

The church was located on the west side of present-day Route 447 just north of Business Route 209. Although Beakleyville Baptist Church is no longer standing, its graveyard, visible to the right of the building in this c.1940s photo from our collection, can still be visited behind today's Toyota of Stroudsburg.

In celebration of , we're taking a look back at the gardens of the Water Gap House in Delaware Water Gap, seen here surrounding the resort in lush greenery in this pre-1907 photo from our collection.

Built by Luke W. Brodhead in 1872, the grand five-story hotel was renowned for its spectacular views overlooking the Delaware River and for its modern amenities. Advertised as the resort with the "highest altitude and coolest location in this region," the Water Gap House remained a local landmark until it was lost to fire in 1915.
