In the fifty years following the American Revolution, the United States underwent dramatic changes. The Articles of Confederation (the nation’s first attempt at a system of government) had been replaced with the Constitution. The thirteen original states were joined by eleven more, and the U.S. claimed territories all the way to the Pacific coast. Agriculture remained an important part of the national economy, but manufacturing was taking hold in New England and transforming communities. The possibilities for advancement and success were increasing, but those opportunities were not available to everyone. Learn more about this important period in our history when American Reflections opens in July at Old Sturbridge Village. https://www.osv.org/american-reflections/
