The Harney Mansion The summer home of General William S. Harney. General Harney was a lead figure in a number of military events in the 19th century.

General Harney was a lead figure in a number of military events beginning with the Black Hawk War of 1832 and other conflicts up to the early years of the Civil War. Harney purchased the mansion and grounds for a summer home and a place to raise horses.
