Brimstone Historical Society

Brimstone Historical Society The Brimstone is a non-profit offering free exhibits and cultural enrichment for visitors to West Cal

Due to catastrophic damage from Hurricanes Laura and Delta, the Brimstone Museum and O Gauge Model Railroad Exhibit were salvaged as best we could, but ultimately succumbed to irreparable damage and had to be demolished. Please feel free to visit the Henning Cultural Center to learn about Hurricane Laura and how it affected our community. The Brimstone Museum staff works full time to host art show

s, exhibits and programming at the Henning Cultural Center. In our efforts to continue our mission to bring programming, history, art, & culture to Southwest Louisiana, The Brimstone Historical Society is hard at work planning the next chapter in our organization's future. Please follow us on Facebook and check back for announcements on what the future holds, as we remember our past.

This Saturday, March 28th is our first film club meeting at the Brimstone Historical Society complex. We're going to discuss a film about playing chess with Death. Set during the crusades, this film explores themes of existentialism, dogma, and the inevitability of death. We will also have popcorn!

We'll be starting at 1 pm in the Mines house.

πŸŽ„ It's a Chaos Theory Christmas Special!

Dec 18 β€’ 4-7 PM β€’ All Ages β€’ Free β€’ 923 S. Ruth St, Sulphur

Join us for a Christmas-themed art night with holiday crafts, music, and cocoa! We’re setting up the gallery with a mix of creative stations where you can try your hand at bookmaking, zines, calligraphy, rubber stamping, and bookmark making. It's a chance to play, learn something new, and make a little creative mess while hanging out with fellow artists!

We’ll have helpers at each table, hot cocoa ready to go, and a spot for kids (or grown-ups, we don’t judge) to write letters to Santa and seal them with wax. You’ll leave with a small project and a few supplies to keep experimenting at home.

Space is free but limited, so be sure to RSVP via email to [email protected] (Let us know how many you're bringing!)

Hosted by the Brimstone Historical Society, with grant funding from the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury and Arts & Humanities Council of SWLA, in partnership with Sulphur Parks & Recreation

The Brimstone Historical Society was honored last night and presented the Arts and Cultural Organization of the Year award at the Region 5 Art Awards, hosted by the Arts & Humanities Council of SWLA.

Our staff is tremendously grateful to continue to facilitate these exhibits year after year, watch our artistic community grow, and offer much-needed free programming to our community. With past exhibits such as Chaos Theory, Curioddities, the Nuts & Bolts Art Show, and Solo Showcase, we have seen the individual impact that open call art shows produce. From paying artists directly for their work, hiring musicians, installers, and more, we have been committed to ensuring grant funding goes directly towards these talented artists so that they may continue to push themselves and grow.

To us, history is all about the community.

Thank you to our amazing Board of Directors, to our partner Sulphur Parks & Recreation. Without their support and the use of the Henning Cultural Center, these exhibits could not exist.

This award is a symbol of the impact that our creative community holds. Each and every artist who exhibits their work, each patron, and collaborator has put forth work that has a tangible, lasting impact on others. The inspiration you create will always speak for itself.

Congratulations to all of the honorees. We are proud to represent a piece of this community, and to be there with you to celebrate and grow.
