Vintage RPG fans rejoice! Over the weekend, a brand new retail game for the Apple II series of computers was released, called Nox Archaist. A spiritual successor to the mid-1980s games Ultima 4, 5, and 6, it has the enthusiastic support of Ultima creator Richard Garriott, and even features an in-game cameo appearance by Garriott's character Lord British. Digital Game Museum will be receiving a complete, pristine boxed edition for our archives thanks to a kind donor.

Tomorrow afternoon, be sure to catch Game Wisdom's video discussion and Q&A session with Nox Archaist lead developer Mark Lemmert. Tune in at 3pm U.S. CENTRAL time zone (1pm PST).

At the Digital Game Museum we use gloves to handle artifacts, but in these uncertain times we've decided to donate our supply of gloves to our local healthcare workers and first responders here in Santa Clara.

Thanks to Santa Clara Police Department for the heads up and to the volunteers at the Porch Pick Up program for coordinating donations.

Stay safe, Stay indoors, finish up a few games you've been meaning to, and wash your hands!

This weekend, all weekend long, come see us at California Extreme in Santa Clara CA! You think "video pinball" is a new phenomenon? We're exhibiting vintage attempts to bridge those worlds, as far back as the 1970s. Admission to the show also gets you freeplay access to hundreds of machines brought by private collectors. See http://caextreme.com/ for details.

Arcades were once a fixture on the American urban landscape, and games were plentiful in rural cities too. The closest heir of today is the so-called "Family Entertainment Center", which is populated with a myriad of devices designed only to take your coins quickly and leave you with a pile of ticke...

The Atari Video Music system is an interesting piece of video game history. It was the first commercially available audio waveform visualizer. We're lucky enough to have one in the collection!

Our hearts go out to Brazil's National Museum over the devastating losses in the fire on September 2. A staggering number of irreplaceable artifacts and records of Brazil's history have been lost forever. Many people are lamenting that digital replicas were never made of some items. As we mourn with Brazil, we also extend gratitude to our colleagues involved in this aspect of preservation, not just in our own field but around the world; and while we reassure our own fans that we take every measure we can to ensure the safety of our own collection it's important to remember that preserving history is the responsibility of each and every one of us.
