Today we remember and honor our dear friend Jann.

For many years, Jann was the heart and soul of the gift shop at the Richard I. B**g Veterans Historical Center. Her warm smile, welcoming spirit, and genuine kindness made every visitor feel like family. She was also one of the founding forces behind our annual Thanksgiving Day Meal for Veterans and Veterans Families — a tradition that continues to reflect her caring heart and dedication to serving others.

Jann’s loyalty to the Green Bay Packers was legendary, and she carried tremendous pride for her hometown of Winneconne, Wisconsin, everywhere she went. Whether sharing stories, helping guests, or volunteering her time, she brought joy, laughter, and compassion to those she encountered.

She will be deeply missed by our staff, volunteers, veterans, Board of Directors, and everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Thank you, Jann, for your years of friendship, service, and love for this museum and our community.

Your Friends at the B**g Veterans Museum!

Last week, the second annual Battle for the B**g went off without a hitch. What two seniors did for the B**g Center is unbelievable. At the end of it all, they raised upwards of $13,500. This feat wasn't done overnight. They spent countless hours working with friends, family, and most importantly, the community to raise these funds.

Long before the game, they covered most of the twin ports, asking for support for their senior project, which was ultimately to raise funds for the B**g Center. The B**g Center is a place where Dallas and Amber are already recognized from their days as Junior Curators, B**g Squadron members, or just volunteers. At the game itself, there were over two dozen fundraising bid opportunities put together, as well as a military recognition that happened before the game. Unfortunately, the game was cut short due to a 10-run rule that Amber( #9) can't say she didn't help with, as she went 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. While Amber was representing the Spartans, Dallas ran around helping manage the game's fundraiser and organizing veterans as they were honored during the game.

In all, we're very proud of what these two have accomplished for themselves and the B**g Center, and we look forward to what they do next. Dallas is currently enlisted with the U.S. Army and will go to basic training this summer, and Amber will be attending UW Stout in the Fall. We wish you two nothing but the best in your future endeavors!

Yesterday we had the pleasure of hosting the Great Lakes Elementary. We did the complete tour of our facility and enjoyed our movie and footlocker presentation. If you stick around to the end of the video you’ll see we had some familiar family in the museum! **g

In anticipation of our 4th of July event at the B**g Center, where we will be celebrating 250 years as a nation, here is a bio and images for Thomas Jefferson. He and the rest of Mount Rushmore PLUS Amelia Earhart, will be at the B**g Center for all to enjoy! Be sure to stop in after you see them in the City of Superioror parade.

Thomas Jefferson was the author of the Declaration of American Independence and the Statute of Virginia for Religious Freedom, the father of the University of Virginia (he didn’t consider being President worth mentioning—he referred to it as “a splendid misery”). He was also a lawyer, natural scientist, applied mathematician, agronomist, inventor, architect, moral philosopher, linguist, amateur musician, and gourmet. And a lifelong slave owner who, throughout his life, worked to end that institution.

He will offer some of his thoughts on democratic government, civil society, and public service, and then make himself available for questions and conversation.

Tony Filipovitch, retired professor of Urban Studies at MnSU Mankato, has been re-enacting Thomas Jefferson for almost 30 years. He regularly participates in History Fest Mankato, and has appeared as one of “The Mt. Rushmore Boys” at the B**g History Museum in Superior, WI, and at the Institute for Theological and Interdisciplinary Studies at Macalester College. He is a frequent guest at schools throughout Minnesota and has conducted seminars on Jefferson’s Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth (commonly called the “Jefferson Bible”).

5/8/2026, we had our official opening of the Al Amatuzio exhibit at the B**g Center. That night, Amsoil hosted an event to honor the exhibit opening. Many stories were exchanged about Al. Alan Amatuzio, the Chairman & CEO of AMSOIL INC., gave a speech reflecting on Al Amatuzio’s legacy, leadership, patriotism, and lasting impact on both the community and the company he built.

It was an incredible evening of remembrance, storytelling, and celebration as friends, family, veterans, and supporters gathered to honor a remarkable life and legacy. We are proud to preserve and share this history through the exhibit at the Richard I. B**g Veterans Historical Center.
