We had a HUGE weekend at the SS Meteor and the Old Firehouse & Police Museum, but we couldn’t leave Fairlawn out of all the fun! 🇺🇸

Today, we officially began the installation phase of our newest temporary exhibit at Fairlawn: A Superior Tradition. This exciting new exhibit explores Superior’s long history of celebrating the Fourth of July as we approach the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence!

Here’s a small sneak peek of some BIG things happening behind closed doors 👀✨

The exhibit officially opens this Friday and will be included on every regular Fairlawn tour. We can’t wait for everyone to see it!

WOW! Grateful doesn’t even begin to describe how we feel about the turnout for the SS Meteor’s 130th birthday party! 🚢🎉

We had so much fun showing you around our favorite ship — from brand new exhibits, to the famous guided tour, to the ship’s bar! Seeing so many people celebrating the Meteor’s incredible history with us made the day truly special.

Special thanks to new sea shanty sing along group All Hands for their amazing performance this afternoon!

If you missed the party, don’t worry — the SS Meteor is open all summer long, and we can’t wait to welcome you aboard!

’Twas the night before opening, and all through the town,

The museums were ready for guests to visit from all around

The exhibits were hung in the cargo hold with care,
In hopes that excited guests soon would be there.

The tour guides were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of whalebacks danced in their heads.
And firefighters’ helmets all polished with pride,
Waited for visitors to take a look inside.

When out on Barker’s Island there arose such a clatter,
We sprang from our bunks to see what was the matter!

Away to the portholes we flew in a dash,
Nearly slipping on paint from the latest fresh splash.

The moon on the harbor so brightly did glow,
Giving sparkle to Meteor resting below.
When what to our wondering eyes should appear,
But crowds lining up saying, “Opening Day is here!”

With museum staff cheerful and volunteers merry,
We knew in a moment they’d soon fill the ferry—
Well… not a ferry exactly, but you get the gist,
There’s cake, tours, and history you simply can’t miss!

So come tour the Meteor, and the Old Firehouse too,
See artifacts, engines, and stories anew.
From the bar to the bunks and the fire bells ringing,
You’ll leave with your heart and your camera both singing.

And we heard the Director exclaim with delight:
“Happy reopening to all, and to all a good night!”

Super sneak peek! 👀 We’ve been working hard to refinish the SS Meteor’s bar for Saturday’s 130th birthday party, and we just had to show you! Stop by from 10:30–2:30 on Saturday for a slice of cake, refreshments, and a chance to see it for yourself! 🎂⚓

Coming soon, you’ll also be able to rent the bar for your own special events! The space will be perfect for graduation parties, groom’s dinners, birthday celebrations, and more. Stay tuned for additional details!
