The Surgoinsville Area Archives and Museum, in cooperation with the City of Surgoinsville and supported by a grant from the Tennessee State Museum Association America 250 initiative, is proud to announce the upcoming production of “Voices from the Frontier.” Written by Winn Ann Seals, directed by Jenny Ray, and featuring a talented local cast, this gripping historical drama tells the story of the Overmountain Men of Hawkins County and their heroic contributions to the Battle of Kings Mountain. Come experience the courage of the frontier men and women who helped shape East Tennessee and the American Revolution. A special thanks for Historical Support and promotion for this project from the Mary Amis chapter of Daughters of American Revolution.

Two free performances will be held at the historic Bellamy Hardware Store, located at 1714 Main Street in Surgoinsville:

• Saturday, November 7, 2026, at 7:00 PM
• Sunday, November 8, 2026, at 3:00 PM

While admission is free, donations to the museum are greatly appreciated. Your support helps us grow and continue providing meaningful exhibits and programs for our community and surrounding areas. For more information, please contact Johnny or Teresa Greer at [email protected].

Join the Surgoinsville Area Archives and Museum on Saturday, October 3, 2026 from 10am to 12pm as we unveil a two new “FEATURE” exhibits.

The first exhibit honors local veterans who gave so much of themselves during the Vietnam War, and focuses on the contributions of our citizens from Hawkins County and surrounding areas. This includes honoring many military members who were in supporting roles, stationed at various installation throughout the world and that region. As not all veterans were stations in Viet Nam, a majority had been drafted, trained and ready to be shipped to where they were most needed during this wartime. Additionally, While the exhibit is as inclusive as possible, we understand that we may have missed some of our past and current residents who played an important role during the Vietnam War. A third (3rd) panel is in the works that will include these service personnel, as well we Reservists, National Guard Members and those serving in various support positions.

We encourage all area residents who may have photos or artifacts from this time period, to share their stories, photos and items with the museum so they may be added to our ongoing exhibit.

The second exhibit covers the TVA’s John Sevier Fossil Plant (aka John Sevier Steam Plant) which commenced operations on October 14, 1952, and was built to meet the increased demand for electric power arising from expanding economic activity and national defense requirements in the eastern Tennessee and western North Carolina and Virginia section of the TVA service area.

Join us as we honor the memory and dedication, as well as the role that Hawkins County played in the Vietnam War and John Sevier Steam Plant. Refreshments will be served during the dedication.
