The pen and ink drawing, by Margaret Woodcock, an art teacher at Cosumnes River College, was the inspiration for the this mixed media artwork. I bought it at an art sale while attending classes there. The other images show some of the progression of the piece, although not all the steps to get to completion. Originally I pasted the Asian writing pieces all over but decided against that. So I painted it all over and then added some of the written pieces as well as strips of black to set them off. The last steps were adding in the vases and flowers. I'm trying to decide on a title and have only come up with "Serenity" but not sure if that fits. I'm open to other ideas. A frame has been ordered and as soon as it comes in, I'll hang this in the Sutter Creek Gallery. This was not an easy piece as it took much trial and error and redoing over a few weeks.

Today I changed my space at Sutter Creek Gallery, adding collages and pastels that bring warmer weather to mind. There are also original Valentine cards in a card rack near my space. And if you look closely at the second image, there are some handmade bags just perfect for a Valentine treat. I plan to be at the gallery Saturday afternoon for the reception for Kirk Neiberger's show and hope to see you there. The gallery, located at 40 Main Street, Sutter Creek, is open Thursday through Monday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

SUTTER CREEK GALLERY'S JANUARY FEATURED ARTIST
Pen and ink artist Kirk Neiberger, who calls himself the Inkist, creates drawings from photos, most of which he takes himself. He particularly loves to interpret local structures and scenes but his pen travels to far-flung places as well. Neiberger’s work is characterized by an attention to detail, as shown by how he depicts the bark on trees or the weathered wood on old buildings. While many of his images are entirely black and white, others are enhanced with bits or splashes of watercolor. He releases limited-edition, high quality Giclée prints of his original drawings which he personally hand-titles and numbers. The artist will be featured at Sutter Creek Gallery, located at 40 Main Street, Sutter Creek, during the month of January, with an opening reception on Saturday, January 6, from 2 to 5 p.m. Phone 209-267-0228 for information.

It's less than a week until the Big Day! Judy Day, Sutter Creek Gallery's current featured artist, has so many marvelous artworks to choose from for a special gift--from framed watercolors and drawings, to matted originals and prints to cards. Her show continues through December at the gallery, located at 40 Main Street, Sutter Creek. Up until Christmas, we are open on Wednesdays; thereafter, we revert to our regular Thursday through Monday schedule. We hope to see you soon. Phone 209-267-0228 for further information.

ART AUCTION AT SUTTER CREEK GALLERY Each month a new original piece of art is offered by a gallery member. All funds raised in these monthly auctions are donated to the Amador County Artists Association for its scholarship fund. December's offering is by Ree McLaughlan Brown. Titled "Triumphant," a $175 value, the image is worked on granite and sits on it's own easel. Visit Sutter Creek Gallery, located at 40 Main Street, Sutter Creek, Wednesday through Monday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., to put in your bid prior to the end of the month. The winner will be called at that time.

Also, I’d you didn’t know Kirk will be the featured artist of the month for two month, January 2024 and February 2024! Come on by the first Saturday to meet him and have some refreshments while viewing some amazing artwork!
