Meet James McManus. James came to Sylva in 1975. He graduated from Western Carolina University in 1978 with a BFA in painting and printmaking. Here you see him with one of his works created in acrylics and pencil. His pieces begin as landscapes but he allows the process to guide him. By focusing on the path the painting takes he works quickly building textures exploring his subject and allowing them to express their voice. James is at the gallery many Saturdays but you can be sure to meet him when you come to tea on the 14th or 21st of December.

Meet Lois Petrovich-Mwaniki. After completing her doctorate in art education she came to Western Carolina to teach and become the director for International Programs & Services. Encouraged to return to her passion for painting by her friend James Smythe, Lois exhibits her oils at Gallery 1. She is at the gallery on many Wednesdays from 11:00 am till 3:00 pm. She will be there next on December the 10th. She is fascinated by the play of light created by shadow. Seen here with just a few of her works, take time to come by the gallery and meet her and see her other paintings.
