The Charter of Chi Pi Chapter, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., was officially presented at a warm meaningful ceremony at the Everson Museum in Syracuse, New York on the evening of January 31, 1976. Chi Pi Chapter was founded by Brothers Benjamin Jeffers, Roosevelt (Rick) Wright, James Cannon, Charles Grace, John Ricks, Archie Gilchrist, Dennis Dowdell, James Campbell, Leon Mullen, Curly Fountainbe
rry, William Thompson, Stephen Moses, William Roland, James May and Ceasar Marshall. On July 24, 1976, Chi Pi Chapter inducted its first line of pledges into the Brotherhood of Omega; Brothers Eudell, Ford, Frazier, Hicks, Young and Zanders. In fraternal union with brothers from many parts of the country who now call Syracuse their home, Chi Pi Chapter continues a 29 year tradition of service to Syracuse and the Central New York community. The Chi Pi Chapter is a member of the 70 graduate and undergraduate chapters of the Mighty Second District Conference of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated international organization. This conference includes the states of New York, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland. The proud host of Omega Psi Phi’s 1987, 1995 and 2002 Second District Conferences, Chi Pi continues to provide cultural and spiritual enrichment to the Syracuse community through the Juneteenth, Purple & Gold Ball and Black History Month Celebrations, as well as the Sunday Worship visits with many of the local Syracuse religious institutions. Chi Pi’s commitment to the youth is reflected through the chapter’s long running Dennis Dowdell Scholarship Award and ongoing Mentorship programs. It should be noted, Brother Benjamin Jeffers has the distinction of being the only brother from Chi Pi Chapter to be elected District Representative (DR) of the Second District, serving from 2002-2004. The local and district dedication from the brothers of Chi Pi Chapter was rewarded with the honor of hosting the upcoming 2010 Second District Conference. The Brothers of Chi Pi welcome the questions of men interested in highest endeavor, community involvement and friendship. Our beloved Fraternity’s cardinal principles of “Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance and Uplift” shall always represent the aims of the Men of Chi Pi Chapter.
