The Syracuse & Onondaga County Fire Museum was honored to welcome 89-year old Retired Syracuse Fire Department Lieutenant Bernie Dranschak and his daughter, along with some other friends today, for a tour of our Fire Museum!! Lieutenant Dranschak served the Syracuse F.D. with distinction from 1965 to 1998 and shared the fact that the training period for new recruits back then was only one week long. It was truly great to see Bernie again and we look forward to welcoming him back again soon!!

The latest acquisition to The Syracuse & Onondaga County Fire Museum is this street directory from former Syracuse Fire Department Fire Station 11 (the current longtime home of F R Brice Florist, at 901-903 Teall Avenue in Syracuse, NY). Special thanks to the awesome Firefighters at Syracuse Fire Station 9 for “rescuing” this historical artifact and donating it to our Fire Museum, for ALL to enjoy and appreciate!!

The sad reality is that our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren DO NOT want the things that we treasured and were always proud to have handed down to us. If you have any firematic items that you would love to see preserved and cherished, for future generations to see and enjoy, please contact The Syracuse & Onondaga County Fire Museum. We will be happy to provide them with a permanent and respected home. Special thanks to Jim & Jill Quinn, for entrusting us with their family mementos and historical items, including many newspaper photos from the 1939 Collins Block disaster, which ultimately claimed the lives of nine Syracuse Fire Department firefighters. We truly appreciate you!!!

Our newest addition at The Syracuse & Onondaga County Fire Museum is a copy of the March 2015 "The Villages Magazine", highlighting Retired Syracuse Fire Department District Chief Joseph Singleton and his custom made golf cart. In 2023, Chief Singleton donated this same golf cart to our fire museum, where we proudly display and use it for promotional activities. Unfortunately, District Chief Singleton passed away on September 15, 2025. Rest easy, Brother. We'll take it from here.

Another piece of local history donated today to The Syracuse & Onondaga County Fire Museum. Sanford Fire Apparatus was a local fire truck manufacturer located in Syracuse and East Syracuse, from 1910 until 1990. We also possess numerous of their new firetruck plans and blueprints. Please click below for more history on the Sanford Fire Apparatus Corporation. And a big “thank you” to another one of our awesome donors!!
