Lea Armstrong Scholarship Fund

Lea Armstrong Scholarship Fund The Lea Armstrong Scholarship Fund seeks to provide financial support to single parents seeking high education in Pierce County. From 1995-2000 Ms. Ms.

Armstrong served on the Board of Trustees for Green River Community College. While serving on the Board, Lea realized how challenging it was for single parents to attend college while simultaneously taking care of children and working. She decided to set-up a way to provide financial assistance to those working so hard to improve their lives. Armstrong is a longtime Tacoma resident, successful bus

inesswoman, and civic leader. What Makes Lea Armstrong and the Scholarship Fund Unique? There are three ways that Ms. Armstrong and the Scholarship Fund stand out from other individuals and organizations that offer financial assistance to college students.
1. According to local college administrators, Lea Armstrong scholarships are the only ones that do not affect a student’s financial aid, if already being received
2. Returning students can re-apply and receive scholarships a second, third, or fourth year!
3. According to the Korean media, which follows Lea’s efforts, she is the only Korean who offers scholarships to non-Korean students. History of Giving
Since its inception, the Lea Armstrong Scholarship Fund has distributed more than $180,000 in financial assistance to over 125 students. Over the last 12 years, the amount per scholarship award has increased from $1,000 in 2003-2006, $1,250 in 2007-2009, to $1,500 in 2010-present.
