Join us in the Cone this week (5/27–31) to see Australian glass artist Nick Mount work in the Hot Shop!

Nick Mount was among the first generation of artists to be introduced to glass in Australia in the early 1970s. Grounded in the historic and cultural traditions of the Venetian glass, Mount’s work tells a uniquely Australian story. It is a story of partnership and persistence, industry and innovation, experimentation and growth. He has a reputation for being a generous mentor. In a career spanning almost 50 years, Mount has made a significant contribution to the development of Studio Glass as an artistic medium in Australia and is celebrated as a master of his craft.

Thank you to residency sponsors Phyllis W. Griggs and Leilee Weyerhaeuser!

Join us in the Cone this SATURDAY, May 23, to see the Hot Shop team bring “Bobster AKA: Chicken Boot”, designed by Callaway (age 11) to life. “Little Bobster got lost in a huge windstorm and found himself on the porch of a house,” Callaway says. “The house gave him a home but he found a boot and instantly loved it.” We instantly love Bobster!

Join us in the Cone June 10–14 and June 17–21 for the NCN Collective two-week Hot Shop collaborative residency! This powerhouse collective will be working together in the Hot Shop and hosting additional after-hours special programming over these two weeks, so make sure to grab tickets and plan your visit.

NCN Collective is a creative group of glass makers and Indigenous artists including Preston Singletary, Martin Janecký, Raven Skyriver, Kelly O’Dell, Charles Parriott, and Joe David. NCN stands for Nuu-chah-nulth, the tribe that Joe David comes from. With their lives woven together, some over four decades, they collaborate in bringing life to contemporary Native sculpture using innovative glass techniques at the hand of Martin Janecký’s unique skill. Concepts and designs of the Tlingit and Nuu-chah-nulth tribes resonate through unique glass sculpture.

During this two-week residency, the artists will work together in the Hot Shop to develop a new body of work that will draw on their artistic voices. The works created during the residency will be the basis for a future joint exhibition that showcases the collaboration, as well as the individual works from the artists to demonstrate the convergence of their ideas.

Learn more about the history of this collaboration and get tickets at https://dub.sh/gJLl6B0. See you there!
