Fulcrum Gallery

Fulcrum Gallery Fulcrum Gallery specializes in up and coming contemporary artists. Open by appointment. I had the unique opportunity build out this venue in Hilltop.

Established in 2007
Fulcrum Gallery opened December 2007, the brainchild of renowned Artist Oliver Doriss. The Fulcrum Project is a combination of many things, a constantly evolving amalgamation of gallery/installation space, fine art retail, as well as an artistic community hub. "For some years my interest in a display venue had been languishing in the background of my artistic career. With Tacom

a's incredible support of the arts and the availability of affordable space, I don't believe I could make a gallery like this work anywhere else." - Oliver Doriss

Introducing David Rios. He is one of the rising youth stars in the Tacoma glass scene. I have been impressed by his artistic approach. He uses traditional glass working techniques to create pieces exploring his Mexican American cultural identity. Rios discovered his passion for glass in 2010 during an intensive work program with Hilltop Artists. Over a decade of experimentation and creative risk taking, Rios has earned scholarships from Pilchuck OfrendaGlass School and The National Craft School Experience which have allowed him to invest significant time and resources into exploring his craft. Most recently Rios was awarded the 2020 Greg Peircy Grant for his dedication to youth development through art. We are excited to showcase David’s distinctively Chicano styled glass art at the upcoming show Riff Raff at Fulcrum Gallery. To find out more about David Rios and his journeys in the medium of glass visit his website riosonfire, delicioso!

Jacob Willcox is a light and mixed media Artist from Tacoma, Washington, and a recent graduate of Alfred University’s Sculptural and Dimensional Studies program. He has explored all types of glass-making, vessels, goblets, glass formulation, but it is the scientific and technical nature of neon that holds his interest. His current work is an explorationBlue Neon Arow by Jacob Wilcox of visual communication. Symbols, graphics and linear forms transmit unique and subtle information.

“My work explores the visual language of compulsion and consumption; asking what it is about signage that triggers our compulsivity? I employ traditional neon signage to create cacophonous, overwhelming spaces. Using neon and mixed media the workexists on the line between risk and reward. Seeing neon signage at billboard proportions in a gallery settingand the way it affects our perception of space and environment, it embraces absurdity and engulfs the viewer.” -Jacob Willcox

To see Jacobs latest installation visit Fulcrum Gallery this week for the opening of Riff Raff Thursday at 6pm. Outside of his artistic practice he runs a small neon studio where he takes on commissions and special projects. You can visit his his website jacobwillcox.com to learn more about this amazing human being.

I came into Bri’s sphere working at a small studio In Seattle Washington. She was new to town and working the glass circuit. A couple days at this shop, couple days at the Glass Eye Studio. A romantic and uniquely Seattle way of living… piecing your bills together through itinerent labor. As I have followed Bri’s trajectory watching her grow and develop a distinctive sensual candy monster style. MonsterIn a male dominated world Bri’s work is unapologetically feminine. Her pieces are multi-media by nature combining different glass techniques with many other mediums. Drawing from the wild and erotic character of the natural environment her work reflects on cultural obsessions of beauty and their relationships to internal anatomies. By fusing similar elements found in biology and botany she creates forms that ‘flirt’ with the audience, exploring ideas of intimacy and desire. See Bri’s work this Thursday 6pm at Fulcrum Gallery for our glass show Riff Raff .

“I get asked often how I got into glass blowing. to which I respond, “I followed the fire.” – Bri Chesler

This Guy! To say Mr. Galen McCarty Turner is a multi disciplined artist is just not enough. Part carnival-busker part tinker-smith and two parts mad-scientist. He is most widely known as a neon artist however his creative drive takes him deep in many pursuits. He is a collector and producer of oddities, chachka, art, and trouble. I as a professional artist am envious of Galen’s creative drive. He makes creative and fun things every day unfettered by financial justification. He isBike Jump a true creative, a true artist. Something I need to incorporate into my own life.

Come see Galen’s latest musings in neon in the physical realm at Fulcrum Gallery May 19th 6pm at our first show this year Riff Raff. Also If you are deep enough in Tacoma / glass culture to know about the legendary “Bike Jump” than you are in for a treat! May 19th at dusk in the alley it’s happening again! don’t miss it. Grit City Mag has a write up about this years event. Reception and opening at Fulcrum Gallery to follow.
