As Memorial Day approaches, we would like to personally invite our community to attend a very special Memorial Day Program on Monday, May 25th at 11:00 a.m. at the Ritz Theatre in Talladega. This is a free event open to the public.

Today I had the opportunity to watch part of the program presentation, and I can honestly say it is a moving and meaningful tribute to those from Talladega County who gave their lives in service to our country. The program especially highlights the fallen soldiers from Talladega who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Vietnam War.

This is more than a ceremony — it is a time of remembrance, honor, reflection, and gratitude for those who never made it home.

The stories, photos, and tributes presented serve as a powerful reminder that freedom has always come at a cost paid by real people and real families from our own community.

We hope you will join us as we remember and honor these heroes together.

Did You Know?

Teaching history today to inspire and educate the generations of tomorrow.

Most people can name a few World War I generals…
but have you ever heard of Lieutenant General Robert Lee Bullard?

Bullard rose to the rank of Lieutenant General and commanded the U.S. Second Army during the final stages of the war in France.

Serving under John J. Pershing, he helped lead American forces through some of the most intense fighting on the Western Front—at a time when the United States was proving itself on the world stage.

Like many commanders of his era, Bullard faced the difficult reality of World War I warfare, where decisions often came with heavy costs. His leadership reflected both the determination and the challenges of fighting in one of history’s most demanding conflicts.

While others became widely known, Bullard’s story is a reminder that history is shaped not only by the names we remember—but also by those we’ve forgotten.
