Camp Moore had a VERY successful work day this past Saturday (Oct. 9) and was blessed with some excellent help by members of the Washington Rifles Camp No. 2211. Trees were cut up and hauled to trash. Logs were cut up for future splitting for firewood and limbs pulled to burn piles. What a great day with help from some great friends! Thank you Washington Rifles!!!

We still have a ways to go so anyone so inclined, we will be working every weekend (Saturday for sure!) between now and the reenactment to get the grounds back to normal. Thank you for your consideration.

Camp Moore had some major damage to the grounds from Hurricane Ida. We lost 3 large trees, numerous limbs and such but very thankfully, no damage to the museum or cemetery. We will be many weeks cleaning up and can use any help that you may be able to provide in the weeks ahead. We will be holding workdays every Saturday for the foreseeable future to get this cleaned up.

Additionally, we are without power and water so will not reopen until we have both of these issues resolved and this may take weeks. Thanks for sticking with us and we appreciate the concern many of you have had for the facility.

GATOR RUN XI VISITS CAMP MOORE
The last stop on the LA SCVMC Gator Run XI Ride was a visit to Camp Moore. Camp Moore was the largest Confederate training camp in Louisiana and the only one in the United States still open to the public. Opened in May 1861 as a site to organize, train and disperse soldiers from Louisiana to all points of the Confederacy. We appreciate Camp Moore keeping the site open after hours for everyone and their warm hospitality.
