On Thursday, October 16th, The Dunedin Fine Art Center opened its arms to me and to my children's book, Mirabelle and the Sea Green Bathtub. New Curator, Danny Olda graciously invited me to present a full reading of Mirabelle and then a brief coral conservation talk followed by a Q&A. I received the warmest of welcomes from those who came to listen and learn. Some were former scuba divers with great questions. They loved the story and many bought books in the Gift Shop which I signed. But I have to tell you that it was the DFAC Team of people who made the look and the sound of that presentation so exciting and memorable for me and everyone there. The large screen for my images, the sound system that played the music I had chosen from Sainnt-Saens and Debussy, the table I requested to lay out my stoney and soft corals, the exhibition easels for my paintings, the podium with microphone, the track lighting in just the right places, the poster which greeted guests, the 60 chairs put in perfect rows. And let us not forget the coffee and cookies! I have never felt so taken care of as a speaker.
My special advocate for Mirabelle has been the unequaled Adrian Smith who rules over the Gift Shop and its treasures. Without her, I would not have had the opportunity to share Mirabelle in such a way. Thank you, Adrian. Thank you, Cassy and Deon and Bob and all of those whose names I don't know. Of course, my studio partner, Percy Kleinops was there clicking the PowerPoint images.
I will always remember the beautiful day you gave me as I shared Mirabelle and my heart.
