Immediately upon entering the Tabernacle, we face the BRAZEN ALTAR. This was the place of sacrifice, the place where blood was shed by an animal, to picture the final sacrifice of the “Lamb of God” - Jesus Christ.
There was no meaning, no access into the rest of the Tabernacle, without the shedding of blood, just as we cannot be saved apart from His Blood. “BRAZEN” means BRASS, which in Scripture is always symbolic of JUDGMENT. The altar was made of wood, encased in brass. Wood is symbolic of Jesus' Humanity and of The Cross. He suffered judgment for us!
2nd Corinthians 5 v 21: For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Leviticus 17 v 11: For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.
