Curious about how seeing an art masterpiece differs from seeing a forgery? AI is making many people more eager to know what's real, what is full of the highest human skill and heart. In my light, romantic (pre-AI) mystery novel my fictional artist narrator will tell you what she sees as the most highly accomplished, emotionally satisfying art. Share her pleasure.

"Ice cream, art, and murder: this colorful novel blends forgery, trendy art-world nonsense, and a budding romance in a can't-put-it-down small-town murder mystery. Such fun!"--Joanne Dobson, author of the Karen Pelletier Mysteries "A well-written detective novel, inspired by a popular figure i...

The original immersive art experience: painting from life. Still thrilling for me to see the development of my painted version of reality. When I start them I know the subject, of course, but many decisions are made as I go along. This one is of Irvington's Main Street, and here the painting (there's more than you see here) is close to finished. I go back to the same spot several times--speed is not my goal. I prefer to "live" in my subject for a period of time.

First day of outdoor painting this year, and was it delightful! Until I had to pack up to beat the rain, anyway. Because of construction I was near but not facing the section of the Van Tassel Apartments in Sleepy Hollow, NY which I'm painting. I was delighted and amazed--really blown away--by a smart and sweet very young man sitting on the same bench with his grandmother. All of 6 years old, when he said he had art class and I suggested he ask his teacher to show him a Monet, he said, "Claude Monet, I already know him." And that was just one of the incredibly knowledgeable things he said. It was an absolute joy to talk with him. Art doesn't always have to be shocking or angry or push the envelope. When you've had enough of those, turn to the kind of art that can be a respite. Painting beautiful places brings people together and is my favorite thing in life. Support the positive.

And a new painting begins. This is first stage of a commission for someone who grew up in this building. I've always loved what Hopper and Sargent could with buildings, and thought of them while I worked.
