Tatum "On the Santa Fe" Museum

Tatum "On the Santa Fe" Museum Tatum is full of rich history, but nobody knows about it.

Why take Tatum's students to Longview or Kilgore when they could learn about the history in their own back yard?

J.C. Beckworth was considered a man of vision and a legend in his own time. He was known as a master politician and educator who gave his best for the boys and girls in Tatum ISD.
—————————
In 1947, a legacy was begun when Professor J.C. Beckworth became principal of Mayflower. He worked diligently to consolidate most of the colored schools in Tatum ISD. In the fall of 1947, all of the area schools consolidated (The Fredonia School, Harmony Hill School, Easton School, Smith Chapel School, and Mayflower School). The benefits were tremendous. A more varied curriculum could be offered to students other than the 3 R’s, as well as special programs to better serve the needs of students. Extracurricular classes like band, music, and choral programs, along with an expanded athletic program, were also on the horizon. (Quoted from - Mayflower Reunion Booklet)
