Taylor Museum of History The Taylor Museum of History is dedicated to preserving and exhibiting the history of Taylor, WI. Open during the summer months, April through November.

Located in the old Taylor Grade School building on the first floor. Admission is free.

Little Miss Muffet
Sat on a tuffet,
Eating her curds and whey;
There came a big spider,
Who sat down beside her
And frightened Miss Muffet away.

This wood craft piece was made by Margaret Rygh (Tom’s sister) in art class in the Taylor school, in the 1930s. It is Little Miss Muffet, and was made by pounding blunt nails into soft wood, a common craft project for rural students at the time.

Long before the internet provided endless entertainment, people knew how to entertain each other. This classic image from the 1954 Taylor Fall Festival is a great example of good old fashioned fun. The two men are wearing a homemade Pantomime Horse costume, heading for the parade, in Taylor, Wisconsin. The Pantomime Horse was introduced in the late 19th century as a theatrical representation of a horse, a sight gag providing unexpected humor value to any production. Two actors in a single costume, one in the front playing the horses head and front legs….the other actor in the rear, bent at the waist holding on to the waist of the front actor. Hilarious! The Taylor Fall Festival was the beginning of what would later become “Old Fashion Days”. It was an opportunity for farm folks to take a break from work, and entertain each other. These unidentified men must have created a lot laughs for viewers of the parade with their Pantomime Horse, on that autumn day in 1954.
