Tecumseh Area Historical Museum

Tecumseh Area Historical Museum The museum opens Saturdays, 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. It then served as a place for the Church of Christ until its patronage outgrew the building.

The mission of the Tecumseh Area Historical Society is to preserve and promote accessibility to the cultural artifacts and resources that embody our community's rich history. Tecumseh Area Historical Society and Museum welcomes the donation of material items that depict the people, homes, businesses and industry that have lived, worked, or had family in the town and surrounding areas. The Museum h

as on display history through various times, including military, Native American, agriculture, businesses, transportation. All these and more have made lasting impact on the town and its people creating an historic history which began in 1824 as the county seat for the 3rd county to be formed in the Territory of Michigan. TAHS welcomes the financial donations that support the operations, and more importantly the maintenance of this historic "old stone church" which houses the museum artifacts and treasures. This building built in 1913 served as the first Catholic Mission Church, until the congregation grew and built a new church. A stained glass studio and the local Chamber of Commerce were housed here until a successful pledge drive made it the home of the Tecumseh Area Historical Museum. The Historical Society members volunteer their time and knowledge to staff and create the displays, develop and present periodic historic programs, support local events, such as the home tours and festivals, and teach elementary students when they visit for class. More information on the museum and Society is found on our website at http://www.historictecumseh.org or if you have a question, contact us through Facebook message or our email at [email protected]. Come visit us at the "Old Stone Church" on the corner of Oneida and Chicago Boulevard in downtown Tecumseh, Michigan.

Today we were gifted a musical performance at the museum by Ko Kaiden! We'd like to thank Ko for his time and everyone that stopped in to enjoy his performance.

Ko Kaiden, Baritone, is a highly versatile musician and a seasoned performer in opera, oratorio and art song, capable of singing in more than ten languages.

We will definitely host him again soon!

Yesterday, local historian Bob Elliott gave over 100 teachers and students a tour through the Brookside Cemetary in Tecumseh. One of our goals at the museum is to teach local history to all generations, and we couldn't be happier to have the students and staff participate in this walk. There's a lot more to learn about our small town! Remember to stop by the museum on Saturdays from 10:30 to 3:30 to learn more.
