Von Prueschenk Feldjager Corps reenacting organization American Revolutionary War reenacting unit Reenacting German Jägers of the American Revolution and representing German camp followers.

We, as a group and individuals, are dedicated to researching and portraying the life and roles of the Hessian Feldjäger Corps under Johann Ewald during the American war of independence. We are dedicated to accurately portraying the lives and roles of these individuals. As a unit we also portray the roles of hessian camp followers and artisans that traveled with the army. The roles of these individ

uals is equally integral to those who have a military impression. Without their contributions to the camp we would be the group we are.

VON PRUESCHENK’S COMPANY
HESSIAN FIELDJAEGER
The Hessian FieldJaeger’s are an authentic recreated unit from the American Revolutionary War Period, (1776-1783). We are part of the British Brigade, which is the primary organization responsible for re-creating the Soldier’s and their Camp Followers lives, while fighting for the Crown.

German troops were recruited by King George III of England as auxiliaries to British forces to help suppress the Rebellion in British North America. Several different contracts with King George and Different German Princes would bring 30,000 to 35,000 troops to America. The Jaeger was a well-trained and disciplined soldier, excellent marksman, and woodsman, reliable and very capable of independent action. They were the elite troops of their day. This unit is from the Province of Hesse-Cassel, and our ruler “LANDGRAVE FRIEDRICH II” pictured above, sent this unit to the American Colonies in October of 1776 and would be engaged in almost every campaign of the war. This unit was with the Surrender of Lord Cornwallis in 1781 and returned home in 1783.

As a Re-enacting unit, we’re looking for volunteers to join our ranks. We are a family friendly unit and encourage families to join. Men are traditionally soldiers but we allow women in the ranks if they wish to fight. If not, women and children are then Camp Followers. Women traditionally do the cleaning, laundry and nursing in camp and were a semi-official part of the army. So if you’re interested in becoming a part of history, see us at, www.HessianJaeger.org.

This weekend, the unit had the privilege to participate in the first annual Washington Crossing Johnson Ferry House engagement. What is not widely known is the story of what occurred the night before the infamous crossing of the Delaware.

Washing sends a unit of about 20 scouts across the Delaware; in essence to recon what the patrols and existence of King's forces may be. The scout unit encounters a Hessian unit of about 50 soldiers on patrol and a (believed) skirmish ensues.

While we historically do not know if any Continental scouting units member's fired, it is believed there were two injuries sustained by members of the Continental scouting patrol. This run-in was very short (matter of minutes ???), and is believed that Johann Rall thought this was the possible attack he had been warned about.

Tentatively looking to return next year Saturday, December 21, 2024.
