This Memorial Day, we are honored to bring back our Wall of Honor. This is a special tribute recognizing the brave men and women who served our country and the families who carry their legacy forward.

As we remember those who gave everything, we invite our community to visit, reflect, and celebrate the stories of service and sacrifice that helped shape our nation and region.

This is a lasting reminder that every name has a story worth remembering and that freedom is never free.

If you would like to honor a veteran or loved one with a plaque on the Wall of Honor the link is below. Or as always, feel free to call or stop by the Museum of Regional History this week and fill out a form in person.
Open Tuesday-Friday 10-5pm

We are excited to announce a new tradition at St. James — the St. James Distinguished Alumni Award.

We are honored to recognize Buzz Arnold as our inaugural recipient. Buzz will also serve as our commencement speaker at graduation on Thursday, May 21.

We were honored to welcome the National Society United States Daughters of 1812 of Texas to Texarkana for a special reception last night ahead of this morning’s historical marker dedication recognizing the Freeman-Custis Expedition.

We are grateful for the opportunity to help honor these women and the important work they do preserving and promoting American history. Thank you to The City of Texarkana, Texas for the opportunity to be part of such a meaningful event for our community.

Thank you to all who joined us for our Freeman-Custis Historical Marker Dedication Ceremony in Sheppard Park, 500 N Stateline Ave. This is believed to be the first and only historical marker in the country dedicated specifically to the expedition. 🗺📜

We were joined by the Texas Society of the United States Daughters of 1812, who donated the marker, and Dr. Dan Flores, whose book Southern Counterpart to Lewis and Clark: The Freeman and Custis Expedition of 1806, has helped bring renewed attention to the expedition’s significance.

This expedition was commissioned by President Thomas Jefferson 220 years ago following the Louisiana Purchase, and is significant to how we understand the history of the Red River, and our 4-states region.

Texarkana, TX Mayor Bob Bruggeman and Texarkana, AR Assistant Mayor Ulysses Brewer read a proclamation celebrating the momentous occasion and declaring May 15th as Freeman-Custis Red River Expedition Day. Our very own Planning & Project Management Coordinator and City Historian, Matt Solomon, was presented with the National Society United States Daughters of 1812 History Award for his dedication to preserving and promoting the history of North East Texas and the City of Texarkana.
