We're excited to share that the McDuffie Museum was featured on WJBF News Channel 6 yesterday!

The story highlights our ongoing Blind Willie McTell project and the work we're doing to preserve and share the story of one of Thomson's most important musical figures. This project has been a labor of love, and it's exciting to see Blind Willie's story getting attention beyond our community.

A big thank you to Kim Vickers and the team at WJBF for coming out to the museum and helping us tell this story!

This year, the McDuffie Museum is excited to have a booth at the Blind Willie McTell Music Festival, and we're bringing something very special with us!!

We are proud to announce that we have secured permission to do a reprint of Blind Willie McTell's legendary 1940 Library of Congress recordings. Recorded in Atlanta in November 1940, these recordings capture McTell not only performing, but also talking about his life, his music, and the blues.

The album includes classics like "Dying Crapshooter's Blues," "I Got To Cross The River Jordan," "Delia," "Boll Weevil," "Amazing Grace," "Chainey," and "Kill-It-Kid Rag," and more.

The Museum also enlisted Tycarius Designs to create new art for this special museum variant of the record, and we're delighted by the results!

πŸ“€ PRESALE BEGINS SEPTEMBER 6

The clear blue vinyl records will be $29, tax included, and we'll have a limited number available! You can pick up your record and your ticket to the Blind Willie McTell Music Festival ($55) right here at the McDuffie Museum. In fact, festival tickets are already available!

Then, on September 12, come see us at the festival in Thomson. We'll have the records with us, along with other McDuffie Museum merchandise.

Blind Willie's music helped put Thomson on the map of American blues history. We're excited to help keep that history alive!

Introducing our new Ugly Mugs, inspired by the iconic Southern Ugly Jugs, to the museum's gift shop!

Originally made by enslaved African American potters in the Edgefield District of South Carolina during the 1800s, ugly jugs are some of the most recognizable pieces of Southern folk pottery.

Some historians believe they were made to keep children away from whatever was inside, often liquor. Others point to African spiritual traditions, suggesting they were placed on graves to guard the dead or ward off evil spirits, which is especially meaningful because many enslaved people were denied proper burials.

These mugs are handmade by Bauern Malerei by Trish, who ensures that each one is entirely unique. Stop by the McDuffie Museum and adopt your own Ugly Mug!
