We are pausing for just a few weeks to honor ! Over the next few weeks, we will highlight the 20 patriots buried across Boone County that we have been honoring through wreath laying ceremonies.

In January, we honored three men at Cox Cemetery.

John Ferguson was born in Virginia and served with Virginia and North Carolina Troops. He was married twice and had 14 children. He moved to Boone County, Indiana in the 1830s. His 1776 stone was unveiled in 1899.

Little is known about George Grimes and his service. He is said to be buried in Cox Cemetery, but does not have a 1776 stone.

Abraham Utter was just days shy of being 12 years old when he enlisted in Pennsylvania. He served in the Revolutionary War, then the war of 1812 under General Andrew Jackson. He moved to Boone County in 1831 and had at least one child, though records suggest more. His 1776 monument was dedicated in 1900.

Our next ceremony is June 4 at Noon. We'll post the information in the comments! To learn about the patriots visit Thorntown Public Library!

It was a beautiful day on the museum lawn as dozens gathered to honor the men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

We want to thank the American Legion Post 218 for all of its previous dedication to the Memorial Day Service. We hope we made you proud.
Thank you to Boy Scout Troop 359and Western Boone Student, Nevaeh M. for being involved in our ceremony.
And a special thank you to Tom Melville for his powerful and emotional musical performance.

Here is your answer!

The Purple Dragons!

Pinnell School operated from 1928-1964. It consolidated into Granville Wells High School, then Western Boone High School.

If you attended Pinnell or your parents did, let us know in the comments! We'd love to hear about your memories. And if anyone, has anything with that purple dragon on it, Museum Coordinator Kirsten is very interested in seeing it!
