Johnson House Update
We are excited to report that Phases 1 & 2 of the Johnson House restoration project have been completed. The foundation has been rebuilt to assure the house will stand for at least another 140 years! The house now sits squarely on new sill plates and is supported by new main beams and floor joints. The exterior work is now complete on the front of the house.and the east wall (facing the Library and the Museum Visitor Center.) All of the windows, including the bay window in the front and all the windows on the porch, have been completely rebuilt with new trim and screens and painted the accent color, deep red. New doors were installed, and the stairs from the second floor, which were not to code, have been removed and completely rebuilt as well as the ramp leading to the side porch. Funding for the doors and window restoration in Phase 2 was made possible through the sponsorship of the Nokomis Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. We thank them and others for their financial support!
The capital campaign will continue as we raise funds for Phase 3. We anticipate that the project will be completed by late summer and are planning an event to showcase the transformation and thank all our generous donors.
Stop by and take a look. What a pleasure it is to see the Johnson House well on its way to a complete restoration.
