IN MEMORIAM
EDWARD JORDAN, son of Rainey and Mary Chastain, was. Born August 9th, 1820, in Buncombe county, N. Carolina. The family moved to north Georgia, Walker county, in 1832. Edward came to Itawamba county, Mississippi, 1845, married Susan Lochridge, December 30th, 1847. Ten children were born to them :- Ellac, 1848-1883; Alcander, 1850-1852; Orlando W., 1852; James Garvin, 1853; Josephine, 1855; Lochridge, 1858-1884; Jefferson Davis, 1860-1918; Cleopatra, 1862; Victor J. 1866; A. Sidney Johnson, 1867.
He was a lifelong democrat, a Confederate veteran, was slightly wounded at the battle of Shiloh. Of French ancestry-Peter Chastaigne coming over in the 17th century. Edward J. died at Rara Avis, Itawamba county, Mississippi, Dec. 6th, 1895.
