Through a variety of programs, guests connect to where their food, fiber, and shelter come from – agriculture! The Georgia Museum of Agriculture (GMA) had a vision to enhance its educational opportunities in agriculture and natural resources, while the Harley Langdale, Jr. Foundation desired to connect children with these same industries that provide the vital resources needed to live and thrive e
very day. The generous support of the Harley Langdale, Jr. Foundation provided the opportunity for the GMA to create Destination Ag – an experiential learning program that connects agriculture and natural resources to children’s daily lives and educates them on the importance of these industries through a hands-on learning environment. Since the program’s establishment in fall 2016, Destination Ag has served over 5,000 students through on-site and outreach experiences. The first year of programming offered educational opportunities at no cost to students in pre-k through first grades in Colquitt, Cook, and Tift counties’ public school systems. In the first five years, Destination Ag will impact more than 17,000 students in pre-k through fifth grades in the eight counties surrounding the GMA. Each fall, a new grade level and county will be added to the program. In fall 2017, the program will add second grade classes in the initial three counties, as well as, all classes in pre-k through second grades from the Berrien County School District. Additional counties that will be added during the next four years include Ben Hill, Irwin, Turner, and Worth. While Destination Ag is focused on serving the counties surrounding the GMA, other schools are welcome and encouraged to participate! Programming costs are $7 (plus tax, unless tax exempt) per person for students and teachers outside of the eight target counties. There is a $7 (plus tax) fee for all parents and additional guests.
*Tax is charged on all admission prices to programs and events at the GMA. Schools, nonprofits and other interested organizations must provide documentation to be exempt from paying tax on admission.
