Located in Tipton, Missouri. Open for tours May - October. Built in 1858 as a girls seminary, it closed when owner left to join the Confederate Army.

It was used briefly as headquarters by General John Fremont during Civil War in October 1861.

Saturday is the day! Annual freewill donation chili supper 5 to 8. Then get a $20 ticket (includes chili) for the tour bus ride around town.

Join us on this Saturday night, Oct 24th, for a unique tour experience - Spooky Tales of Tipton. Hop on the bus and tour sites around Tipton listening to mysterious tales of old, forgotten history, and mischievous local characters of our past, as our tour guide Mitchell points out the actual locations where the events occurred, making our past come alive! Sign-up spots are available, but guests must pay before signing-up. Bus seats are first come, first serve after reserved seats are filled, with 12 seats per tour. A sign up sheet will be at the carriage house that night, where payment will be collected. The tour begins at 6:00pm. Tours will leave at the top each hour. Guests are encouraged to come early and join us for a chili dinner, which the $20 tour ticket includes that meal as well! Patrons who wish to not ride the bus, are still welcome to join us for chili for a free will donation.”

Tours today, Sunday September 27, 2026 from 2 to 4 p.m. One of our more unusual items on display is this wood container of mosquitos "harvested" in October 1900.

The Maclay Home invites the Tipton community to join us on the evening of Oct 24th for a new event - a spooky bus tour around our town, where lost stories are uncovered about Tipton’s mysterious, spooky past. Tours will run on the hour, beginning at 6pm.

We will be serving our annual Chili Supper that evening for a free-will donationi, either on-site or to-go. A $20 bus tour ticket will include all-you-can-eat chili.

Get in the hallows eve mood with us on Oct 24th as we bring Spooky Tales of Tipton to life!
