I have begun a new series of w/c paintings - having been inspired by the modified guitar music of Alexandr Misko whom I heard play this past summer in PEI. Pencil in hand I listen to a CD of Misko’s music while letting my had be guided by what I am hearing. I now have 19 sketches or templates. Today I painted the second sketch balancing color and creating texture. I shall post more in this series as they are completed.

July first, Canada Day, is the 2025 opening of Bedford Station Gallery. Walk through the Gallery to view this year’s selection of contemporary art followed by a walk through the walled garden to view Wayne’s palette of colors and wall art created from found or thrifted art.

The weather seems to be cooperating. Not a beach day, so a perfect day for gallery viewing and a walk in the park.

Yesterday Katriona became focused (obsessed) on the connection of the Yótul stove to the chimney in my living room. Today, while sharing lunch with my friend, Fran, we heard fluttering and scratching coming from the outlet. Fran identified the sound as coming from a trapped bird. Our challenge was to release the bird from the stove without its flying into the house. Together we went into problem solving/seeking mode. How and with what to release the trapped bird? Eventually a large mesh strainer used in panning for nuggets was found in the basement. It was large enough to cover the cooking plate on the stove. I pried the plate open with a “church key”*; Fran placed the strainer over the opening into which a starling flew; Fran wedged a slim plastic cutting board under the strainer and carried the strainer, starling, cutting board ensemble through the door, onto the deck and released the bird who flew onto a high bough of a nearby tree. It perched, stopped, turned to face us as though thanking us for its rescue.

Looking back, unexpectantly, once the starling hopped into the improvised cage it became quiet as though doing its part, knowing we were trying to rescue it. The operation seemed a coordinated effort among the bird, Fran and me with a collective understanding that we were helping and meant no harm.
