A painting of paint, executed with absolute precision.

pushes hyperrealism into unexpected territory with a subject that is completely abstract: thick, expressive strokes of color suspended in motion.

At first glance, the work feels like a painter’s palette brought to life. Wet pigment, sweeping gestures, soft blends, sharp ridges, glossy drips, and bursts of color all collide with energy and emotion. But nothing here is accidental. Every fold, highlight, smear, and reflection is rendered with the discipline of hyperrealism.

RISK is not just a name in graffiti. He is a West Coast pioneer who helped move street art from the margins into the cultural conversation we are living in today.

Graffiti. Street art. Murals. Public art.

At their highest level, they are all part of the same lineage: artists claiming the world around them as canvas, using the street as a place for life, color, rebellion, and expression.

This is not about vandalism. This is about vision.

After World War II, art broke open. Expressionism, abstraction, graffiti, and street art all emerged from the same larger cultural shift: artists moving beyond tradition, beyond the academy, and beyond the idea that art had to live only inside institutions.
New York became America’s postwar playground for abstraction, just as the streets became a new kind of public studio. Softness learns to survive.

Maïté Côté’s Toxic Plush is one of the standout works anchoring Altered Familiar, now on view at VEFA Gallery.

At first glance, the teddy bear recalls childhood comfort, attachment, and innocence. But in Côté’s hands, that softness begins to change. Fused with reptilian qualities of instinct, camouflage, and defense, the bear becomes something more complex: tender but guarded, playful but alert, vulnerable but evolved.

Toxic Plush asks whether innocence ever truly disappears, or whether it simply adapts to the environments that shape it.

This Saturday, step into Altered Familiar at VEFA Gallery.
Opening June 6 from 6–10 PM, Altered Familiar brings together a powerful group of contemporary artists exploring transformation, beauty, memory, surrealism, and the familiar made strange.

Among the works on view is Diaphanous by , an intimate oil painting that captures the feminine figure in a moment of softness, seduction, and symbolic transformation. Wrapped in fur-like texture and surrounded by blurred lights, the figure feels suspended between vulnerability and power, innocence and revelation, dream and desire.

Within the exhibition, Manukyan’s work helps carry the viewer from childhood memory into the more complex terrain of beauty, body, instinct, and becoming.

Every monumental sculpture begins with a story, a site, and a vision.

Andy Scott’s Belle was commissioned for a new estate in Colorado Springs, on land once tied to the legacy of Ruth Banning, a formidable local figure whose Percheron horses were part of the region’s working history. From that point of origin, Scott developed not simply a sculpture, but a landmark rooted in place, memory, and cultural identity.

This is what defines Andy Scott’s commissioning process. Each work begins with deep consideration of location, history, movement, and meaning. In the case of Belle, the Percheron became the ideal subject: a proud draft horse with historic significance to the area, translated through Scott’s signature welded steel technique into a form that feels both powerful and alive. Every decision, from the forward motion of the body to the wind-swept mane and tail, was made in response to the environment the sculpture would inhabit.

The result is more than a sculpture. It is a site-specific monument, shaped by narrative, engineering, and artistry at the highest level.

Monumental opens Saturday, February 21 at VEFA Gallery.

VEFA presents a solo exhibition by internationally renowned sculptor Andy Scott, .sculptures , known for landmark public works including The Kelpies, (Falkirk, Scotland). Monumental brings together maquettes, drawings, and a ten-foot steel horse head to show the full process from concept to fabrication: how Scott engineers form, scale, and surface through thousands of welded steel segments.

For collectors, Monumental is also a direct look at what commissioning at the highest level requires and makes possible: early studies, scale decisions, material tests, and the structural intelligence behind works designed for estates, institutions, and civic sites.
