Join us in a free event, Wednesday, September 16th at 6:30pm at the Torrington Historical Society, on Winfield Scott Clime and the Lyme Art Colony presented by Amy Kurtz Lansing, Curator at the Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme, CT!

The Torrington Historical Society has several of Clime’s paintings in the Hotchkiss-Fyler house on display as when the family lived in the home showing their appreciation of his art. Curator Amy Kurtz Lansing will discuss the career of this talented landscape artist and photographer during WWI, his connection to the Old Lyme Art Colony and Torrington!

The Real McCoy - Water St 1947 as it appears in a privately owned photo album. McCoy's sold radios, phonographs, records, electrical appliances and musical instruments. It seems appropriate that this is now the home of Torrington's radio station, WAPJ.

View original documents signed by the Connecticut signers of the Declaration of Independence, Litchfield County Revolutionary War materials and objects, and Torrington Historical Society collection items that highlight the impact of the Declaration, and the many other celebrations that honor it over the past 250 years.

Don't miss this limited-time FREE exhibit!

"A fascinating glimpse of how the Declaration of Independence has been celebrated over time."

Torrington native and longtime Torrington Historical Society supporter George Stickles recently donated an important collection to the museum. It features documents signed by the four men from Connecticut who signed the Declaration of Independence and a document signed by John Hancock!

The Stickles' collection forms the foundation for the Echoes of Freedom exhibit. The exhibit also includes 18th century artifacts from the museum collection and items from the 1876 Centennial and the 1976 Bicentennial!

The grounds of the historical society are a magnet for wildlife. As you can see, our lush gardens are visited by rabbits and bears!
